I listen to NPR. My NPR station plays the BBC. I heard a story the other day that just broke my heart. There's a list of 24 words that are going to be cut from the Collin's English Dictionary due to lack of use. If it were several hundred, that would be one thing-I understand that new words are born everyday, and that old words must make room for new words, and that's just part of the tragedy of language. But 24? As though these 24 words take up so much room that it will make a difference? So here I am offering these 24 words a new home- on you. And if, once you own the word, you use it, it won't die. So much the better if you have access to publishing, but even if you don't- Use Your Word. I have not sewn these words onto ribbon yet- you may pick any of my standard ribbons- they are pictured in each listing. The prices assume a yard of ribbon- as in the longtails listed separately- if you only want a bracelet, make a note at checkout, and I'll refund you two dollars.
